a brief history of a unique family company. Snowbirds, air shows, two brothers, a 69 Cadillac and the open road.

Humble beginnings and a drive to undertake something new is how GolfStar came to be. In a downtown Vancouver apartment Brent and Blair Philp met with their father, Colonel O.B. Philp Ret'd. who was formerly the air show co-ordinater for Expo 86 and incidently former Base Commander of CFB Moose Jaw and founder of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Aerobatic Team. Blair had been working for a golf shop in California while attending San Jose State where he graduated with a degree in marketing and advertising. He "knew a little about the Golf Business". Brent knew a lot about sales from his experience selling drilling equipment in the Alberta oil patch. The brothers were both looking to change their futures and they had an idea to present to their father. The young men would form a golf company!

While both had enthusiasm they were lacking in two essential areas- management experience and the necessary capital. Fortunately for the budding entrepreneurs O.B had an abundance of management experience and the right contacts to secure a line of credit. Golfstar (Canada) Inc. was born and O.B. was appointed president. In Brent's 1969 Cadillac Seville the pair set-off with neither price lists or business cards but confident they would deliver the goods....not really knowing exactly what the goods were or quite what was expected. Initially working out of their parent's basement the company began to grow and soon developed a reputation for reliability and service with a smile. Quite simply it was fun to do business with the Philp boys.. Sadly in 1995 O.B. Philp passed away and it was at this time that their sister Kimberly Philp joined the company and has become an integral part of Golfstar Canada's success. Still a family company, Golfstar Canada delivers with the same enthusiasm as it did back in the heady days of 1989. No longer the dream of two young men, Golfstar Canada has matured with distinction.

In 2009 Golfstar (Canada) Inc. celebrated it's 20th anniversary. Twenty years and counting, of service to the golfing industry.
